1846 Large Cent

« on: October 06, 2009, 08:21:30 PM »

The other day I dropped Sara off at band and decided to run the metal detector while she was marching.  I found a lot of can fragments as well as 3 memorial pennies.  The wind was cold but I kept going.  The next hit was showing on my detector the same as the can fragments were but it was a more solid full tone.  I dug down almost 4 inches and found this class ring.  My first class ring.  When Sara came out I told her what I found and she said I would never find the owner since the ring was dated 1994.  I took the challenge and the first place I looked was on facebook and I found a guy by the name of Todd Nichols.  So I emailed him and asked if he went to school here and he said yes.  I then asked if he lost his ring and he said as a matter of fact I did.  I told him I found it and he was amazed after so long it turned up.  Turns out he lives in Wichita KS now.  I told him I have to be there on October 16 for a meeting so we are going to hook up then.  I will try and get pictures of the exchange.  It is a 14 kt gold class ring.
