I Smell....I Smell...hmm..SILVER!!

« on: March 07, 2010, 01:59:07 PM »

I got out for 2 hours this morning. Its been gnawing at me to get out and dig something old. I went to an old house site that I received permission for and had a little luck. As soon as I dug a wheaty, I figured there had to be more. I ended up with one silver. It is a 1916 merc. I think I've dug 5 of these now and no "D".
I also dug a few indians. One is a sweet 1889 and the the other is a 1905.
The wheats were 1912-D, 1913-D, 2-1919's, and a 1930. The ground was nice and moist but not too muddy. Towards the end of my hunt, I got a nice signal at about 5in and thought it was a large cent when it first turned up. Well, its not a larger cent, but it is one sweet token for sure! It says "Parry manufacturing co. Indianapolis" also "High Grade surreys buggies" It has a picture of an old buggie on one side. It seems to date to around 1896.
Theres some neat history I found on the company. Hopefully I can get back and spend more time on this property.

WOW !!!  Nice finds Johnny !

That is a great '89.  You wont find them much better than that in the dirt.

Thanks guys! I just love the token. At first, it looked like a darn large cent and I thought to myself...."Who wants to dig one of those crappy things?"... Yah..RIGHT.. But then I noticed the picture of the buggie and got excited all over again. I got pretty lucky on that sweet indian also. This is a pretty big property so maybe I'll pick something else up on the next trip out. I'm gonna slow down and dig all of the positive signals since this place has some good age to it. I already dug a few shotgun brass at about 7in also.
